新疆維吾爾自治區巴音郭楞蒙古自治州若羌縣樓蘭故城遺址發現。塔形制承襲自印度窣堵波式。據樓蘭故城附近出土建築殘件上所鐫刻的中文及佉盧文（Kharosthi）銘文判斷，應為三世紀佛教文物，亦為佛教流傳至中國最早期的實物佐證。
塔為木質，分為塔基、塔身及塔剎三部分。方形塔基，上接覆鉢形塔身，腰部飾一道圈環。塔剎由平座所承托，上立五層相輪。剎頂已殘缺。外觀簡樸無飾紋，雖年代久遠，木質紋理清晰可見。
