萬佛寺遺址造像

四川省成都市萬佛寺遺址出土

四川省成都市萬佛寺遺址出土。該寺據傳建於東漢延熹年間(158~167),目前最早的石刻出土記錄為清光緒八年(1882)王懿榮《天壤閣筆記》:「鄉人掘土,出殘石像,大者如屋,小者卷石,皆無首或有首無身,無一完者。……凡百餘……乃揀得有字像者三:一曰元嘉(424~453),一開皇(581~600),一無紀元。」其後分別於一九三七年、一九四五至一九四六年、一九五三至一九五四年陸續出土數批石刻造像。造像年代可分為早期和晚期,早期指南朝宋(420~479)至梁(502~557),晚期則為北周(557~581)至唐(618~907),在佛教造像藝術上具有重要地位,總數達二百餘尊。
 南朝宋元嘉二年(425)之浮雕,年代最早也最精美,然今已流落至法國,中國僅存拓片。另,元嘉二十五年無量壽佛像著厚重的通肩袈裟,螺髮圓大,保留佛教初傳中國之造像特徵。南朝梁造像種類較為繁多,造型古樸生動,而秣菟羅(Mathura)式和褒衣博帶式二種類型袈裟的佛像並存,表現出南方地區佛教造像兩種主要類型,也是中國佛教造像初創到成熟時期的典型代表。其中梁普通四年(523)康勝造釋迦牟尼佛及脇侍像,主尊佛像身著褒衣博帶式袈裟,足見造像樣式已十分漢化。
 一尊唐代金剛力士像,頭部和右手雖已損毀,其上身、左臂及足部肌肉鼓凸,筋骨緊挺,充滿寫實張力,而大裙下襬規整的襞褶流暢優美,表現剛柔並濟的視覺效果,為珍貴藝術創作。
 該區出土石刻材質以四川盛產的砂岩為主,細密而輕軟,充分表現佛像明朗流暢的線條和細膩豐潤柔和的造型。
