當麻寺四天王像

日本

位於日本奈良縣葛城市當麻寺金堂須彌壇四隅。除多聞天王為鎌倉時代(1185~1333)木雕外,其餘三像皆以夾紵脫胎技法塑造,屬日本現存年代最早的乾漆造像。夾紵層內架上桐木薄材,表面幾乎無添塗木屑漆而完成潤飾。推測四天王與主尊彌勒佛坐像約於七世紀下半葉所製。一九○九年指定為日本重要文化財。
 四像妝彩,像高約217.6~221.2公分不等,皆直立於邪鬼上,體軀健壯,身著肩甲、鎧甲,手持器物,作武士裝束,帶輪輻狀的法輪頭光。其中,持國天王綰山形髮髻,目視前方,略微開口;衣領挺立,披風於胸前打結,袖袍寬大,袖口敞開,裙裾長及膝下;右手握劍,左手托物舉至胸前,下腹前披掛盾牌,展現神將的形象。廣目天王左手持經卷,右手握筆,筆尖朝下,似作寫字姿勢。增長天王左手握戟,張口似在說話,神情寫實,其服飾容貌與持國天王相仿。
