Sarnath: Seated Buddha

佛坐像

印度北方邦鹿野苑遺址出土

印度北方邦瓦拉那西(Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh)鹿野苑(Sarnath)出土。佛頭部呈橢圓形,高肉髻,螺髮整齊。眼瞼低垂,目光內斂,嘴角微揚,表情靜謐祥和。雙手於胸前施轉法輪印,結跏趺坐於台座之上。通肩袈裟緊貼軀體,薄如蟬翼,僅在衣領、袖口和下襬邊緣雕有幾絲衣紋線。腰布末端在足前呈扇形張開,布褶齊整規律。
 佛頭光內層樸素無紋,向外依序為聯珠紋、蓮花卷草紋、聯珠紋及連弧紋,雕飾精美華麗。頭光左右上方雕有一對散花的飛天,背屏兩側是站立瑞獸,張口朝外,上飾有摩竭魚。台座下正面中央縱向雕刻一法輪,法輪兩側為雙鹿、五比丘和一對母子信徒,末端雕立柱。從佛手印以及台座浮雕,可知刻劃佛陀在鹿野苑初轉法輪的場景。
 佛陀冥想的眼神、貼體的衣紋處理等表現,均為笈多王朝(約320〜550)鹿野苑式造像特點。勻稱的造型、優美的姿態以及淺灰色楚納爾(Chunar)砂石瑩潔光潤的質感,使作品顯得高貴而雅致,為笈多王朝最著名的雕像,亦是古典作品的代表作之一。佛像表情寧靜、和諧,具平衡的美感,把創作的目標轉向一種理想化的美,印度藝術這一最美好時期,可與世界上任何最優秀的雕刻相媲美。
