文殊菩薩在尼泊爾佛教中被視為傳達真理與智慧者。菩薩頂戴寶冠，飾項圈、手鐲和臂釧，上鑲嵌各色寶石，裝飾華美。俯首垂視，表情肅穆。袒上身，結跏趺坐於束腰仰覆蓮座上，蓮瓣瘦長排列整齊，邊緣飾聯珠紋。
菩薩作十二臂，成雙相對，分別代表五方佛和金剛薩埵。高於頭頂的雙手作外縛印；身前第一對手臂當胸，作轉法輪印，象徵毗盧遮那佛；第二對手臂呈與願印，將供品灑落鉢中；第三對手臂置於腿上，雙手施禪定印並持鉢。左右兩對手臂，因手中持物已經遺失，據推測其中一對均持金剛杵，杵上分別置寶劍和杖；另一對手臂則握弓和箭。此造像是尼瓦爾（Newar）藝術中菩薩典型，為其他地區所罕見。
