Watercolor and mixed medium
Martha Aitchison is an Argentinian Buddhist painter, as well as an architect who studied at Buenos Aires University. She became a Chartered Town Planner in 1967, and subsequently worked as a planning officer for several years. During the 1960s, she relocated to England and joined the local Buddhist society. In order to further her education in the arts, Aitchison obtained a degree in Art and Design from the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design in London in 1990.
Aitchison’s unique style of artwork utilizes different mediums such as oil paints, pastels, watercolors, and computer, often creating mixed-media works. Her use of the computer as a painting tool allows her to creatively work in contrast to traditional techniques in order to produce completely new and unique works of art.
Having participated in over 50 art exhibitions and competitions in England and abroad, her solo Buddhist art exhibition, A Lotus in Flower, the very first of its kind in the United Kingdom, was displayed in 2005. Many of Aitchison’s works are part of the collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, as well as the London Buddhist Vihara. Her series of paintings on the Life of the Buddha are found in the Thames Buddhist Vihara in London. Her painting, The Gift of the Dharma, is collected at Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
