Dating from the rule of King Ramathibodi III (reigned 1656–1688), this mural portrays the people of the Malla clan rushing to Kushinagar after Ananda told them that the Buddha was about to pass into parinirvana. The figures are arranged in two tiers. In the upper tier, three monks holding fans lead the king and his family. Ministers in patterned clothing walk in pairs in the lower tier. The Ayutthayan clothing and headdresses worn by the figures are portrayed in great detail. Slight variations in their facial expressions and postures adds diversity to the simply arranged image.
