Mirror with Amitabha Buddha Triad

Mirror with Amitabha Buddha Triad

KOREA; Goryeo dynasty

This square, bronze mirror has engravings on both sides. Part of the mirror is covered in a green patina due to oxidation. On the front of the mirror, there is Amitabha Buddha flanked by two Bodhisattvas.
Amitabha is portrayed seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne with a swastika on the chest symbolizing auspiciousness. The lines on the robe are quite thin and exquisitely drawn, and the lotus petals of the throne are decorated with jewels. The attending Bodhisattvas, Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta, stand on lotus pedestals. They turn towards the Buddha with palms joined in reverence. Unfortunately, Mahasthamaprapta on the left is almost indiscernible.
On the back of the mirror is an engraving of a nine-story pagoda, which is indistinct apart from some lines at the center.
