Norbulingka Palace: Vessel

CHINA, Tibet, Lhasa

The vessel’s stemmed foot is decorated with a scroll pattern. On the lower part of the body, there is a row of lotus petals. There is an inscription in Tibetan around the middle of the body, the top of which is decorated with floral designs and a cloud pattern. The neck is high and wide with a floral design together with the eight auspicious symbols. Floral patterns decorate the rim and spout, and the handle curves down from the middle of the rim to the middle of the body. The overall appearance of the upper portion of the vessel is that of a monk’s hat.
