Mogao Caves: Ananda

CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Song dynasty

The statue of Ananda is thought to have originally been located in Mogao Cave 111. The young and handsome disciple stands on a lotus pedestal looking downward to the left with his hands hidden in his sleeves. The outer monastic robe is russet in color. The blue inner robe is decorated with a variety of floral designs.
