Seated Buddha

CHINA; Tang dynasty

The Buddha sits cross-legged on a Sumeru lotus throne. The figure wears a monastic robe with folds presented in realistic detail. The right hand is raised elegantly while the left hand faces outwards in the lotus mudra. The leaf-shaped nimbus behind the head contains three Buddhas seated on projecting lotus stalks.
