Klaten: Vajra

INDONESIA, Central Java, Klaten; Central Java period (circa 7th–13th century)

At both ends of the vajra there are five prongs, with a straight prong in the center and four other prongs that curve inward. The center of the handle has a raised band decorated with flower pattern. There are lotus petals at either end of the handle.
The excavation of this vajra from Klaten in Central Java is indicative of the presence of Vajrayana Buddhism in that area.
