Sandstone
This sculpture, excavated from central Thailand, shares traits found on statues from the Dvaravati Kingdom (circa 6th–13th century). The head is oval in shape and protrudes slightly outward, framing the half-opened eyes, which are outlined to enhance them. The fine eyebrows arc downwards to join at the center and resembles the wings of a hovering bird. The wide nose falls in a straight line to a well-defined mouth where the lower lip is thicker than the upper lip. The usnisa among the ringleted hair is barely raised and the long neck has the three lines of a great person.
