Stoneware
The Arhat has a high, furrowed forehead, broad face, closed eyes, long earlobes, firmly closed lips, and noticeable jowls. Appearing wise, he wears black prayer beads around his neck and his body is stooped, emphasizing his old age. He demonstrates his devotion by joining his palms and holding a whisk, which dangles down in front of him. His body is clad in a white robe, which is in stark contrast with his dark brown complexion. The folds of the robe and the long sleeves add a sense of stability and dignity to the character. The white crackle glaze on the robe is particularly pleasing. The artist has brought out the character and devout nature of the Arhat very effectively.
