Rhinoceros horn
Made from rhinoceros horn, this statuette of Budai has an upper part which is a chestnut color, and a lower that is light brown. Budai is portrayed with a full face, joined eyebrows, half-closed eyes, a bulbous nose, a broad grin, and large earlobes. He looks up and laughs heartily. He is dressed in a long robe with loose sleeves and has a large belly. Seated with his knees sticking up, he supports himself with his left hand and holds an object in his right. Four children wearing long robes play joyfully around Budai; one sits on his shoulder and pulls his ear, while another sits between his feet and tugs at his robe.
