Avalokitesvara has a round face, downcast eyes, a prominent nose, and a small mouth. The hair is neatly tied in braids with ribbons hanging down over the shoulders. A long robe covers both shoulders; the folds are delicately formed to appear thick and heavy. The bare chest is adorned with a large necklace, and both hands are held inside the sleeves while the right elbow rests on a side table. Avalokitesvara sits in a variation of royal ease with the left knee bent up.
The statuette has a waxy white glaze that complements the image of Avalokitesvara. The face and posture of the Bodhisattva are characteristic of Buddhist images from the Ming dynasty.
