Fuxin Liao Tomb: Stupa

CHINA, Liaoning, Fuxin; Liao dynasty

This stupa is made of pure gold and measures 25 cm high. It consists of a round base, cylindrical body, and spire. The Sumeru base has a three-tier plinth decorated with repoussé scroll leaf, inverted lotus, and peony patterns.
The body is carved with verses, vows on constructing a stupa, and mantras. The body is surmounted by an irregular pyramidal roof with a diameter of 10 cm. At the edge of the roof are lotus buds; the top is embedded with pearls. The spire consists of an upright lotus, sphere, stacked rings, a canopy, jewel, and flame. The stacked rings are decorated with ornaments such as pearls.
