Chongsheng Temple Qianxun Pagoda: Figurine of Seated Buddha

CHINA, Yunnan, Dali; Dali Kingdom

This figurine is one of two recovered from Qianxun Pagoda at Chongsheng Temple. The Buddha has a round usnisa and a square face that expresses joy and compassion. His shoulders and chest are narrow, and he wears both an inner robe and an outer robe with a double collar and simple folds. Seated in full lotus position, the Buddha has both hands raised before his chest forming the bodhyangi (wisdom fist) mudra.
