Bohai: Figurine of a Standing Buddha

CHINA, Heilongjiang, Mudanjiang; Tang dynasty

This gold standing Buddha was excavated in 1988. The figurine is 7 cm high, 1.2 cm across the shoulders, and weighs 49.1 g. The Buddha stands barefoot on a lotus pedestal and has a usnisa, a round face, and long earlobes. He wears an inner and outer robe with the folds clearly defined. The Buddha holds a vase in his left hand down by his side, while the right hand is raised with palm facing forward.
