CHINA, Inner Mongolia, Chifeng; Liao dynasty

This glass reliquary vessel was created during the Liao dynasty. In 1989, it was recovered from a chamber underneath the stacked rings of Qingzhou White Pagoda in Bairin Right Banner, Chifeng.
The vessel is shaped like a gourd with a spherical body which curves in toward the narrow 0.3 cm wide mouth. It measures 3.8 cm high and has a diameter of 3.85 cm at its widest point. It is very dark and appears austere without any decoration. The stopper is made of a reddish orange fabric.
