These silk embroideries of four Arhats were created by Shen Shou, a well-known artist of the late 19th and early 20th century.
The Arhat with Long Eyebrows wears a long flowing robe while sitting on a throne of roots. He raises his eyes and holds up his eyebrows with his right hand. The Arhat with the Divine Finger shows the figure seated on a meditation mat, with piles of books behind him. As he points his finger to the sky, a stream of smoke rises up from the tip of his finger. The Arhat with a Long Stick portrays an Arhat resembling a monk in baggy robes, holding a stick high up in the air. The Arhat with a Beard is shown in a long flowing robe with sleeves hanging down to the ground. He looks upwards to one side and has his arms outstretched.
