Chaoyang North Pagoda: Dharma Wheel

CHINA, Liaoning, Chaoyang; Liao dynasty

This Dharma wheel was recovered from the heavenly palace of the Chaoyang North Pagoda in 1988. It has a diameter of 2.7 cm and features two concentric rings with six spokes consisting of vajras. The rings of the wheel are decorated with lotus patterns and the hub is inlaid with a pearl surrounded by lotus petals.
Above the wheel is a hole that once held a jewel. There is a suspension hook at the back. A vajra hangs beneath the wheel, followed by a bell with a half vajra handle. The waist of the bell is also decorated with vajras.
