Stoneware
This lotus bowl was excavated from the site of the Sawankhalok kilns in the Sri Satchanalai district of Sukhothai. It was made during the Ayutthaya Kingdom (circa 1350–1767).
The bowl has a wide hollow base in the shape of an inverted bowl decorated with a band of vertical lines. Supported by a narrow stem, it has a wide mouth and the outside is decorated with a series of narrow upright lotus petals. The inside of the bowl has a lotus design at the center surrounded by two rings of alternating large and small lotus petals.
The firing process caused fine cracking lines on the surface of the bowl. Characteristic Thai elegance and grace can be seen in the bluish-celadon of the glaze and the shape of the bowl.
