This Avalokitesvara statue, excavated from the western entrance of Dingfu Street in Beijing in 1969, was created in Jingdezhen during the Yuan dynasty.
The Bodhisattva wears a decorative crown with ribbons hanging down to the shoulders and large earrings that suspend from the earlobes. Adorned with an elaborate necklace and hanging beads, a bracelet is also visible on the right wrist. Avalokitesvara wears a stole that covers both shoulders and a long dress with a belt tied around the waist. Glazed in subdued tones of green and beige, the Bodhisattva sits in a posture of royal ease with the right elbow resting on the raised right knee.
