Gilt copper alloy

Phurpa

CHINA; Qing dynasty

This phurpa consists of a handle and blade. The handle is comprised of three warriors’ heads colored red, white, and green. They wear skull crowns and dangling earrings, and each forehead has a prominent third eye. With staring eyes and open mouths, they have a wrathful appearance.
The three-edged blade emerges from a makara’s mouth, positioned directly beneath the handle. The blade is decorated with a scroll leaf pattern.
