Conch

CHINA; Qing dynasty

According to historical records, the Sixth Panchen Lama, Lobsang Palden Yeshe, presented this conch to Emperor Qianlong (reigned 1736–1795) of the Qing dynasty, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
The conch is undecorated and spirals to the right, which makes it particularly rare and sacred. It is preserved in silk inside a leather box. On the inside of the lid, there is an inscription in Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian, and Tibetan.
