Candle Holder

CHINA; Qing dynasty

This candle holder was created during the rule of Emperor Qianlong (reigned 1736–1795) of the Qing dynasty.
Made of gilt copper, the holder has a base that has a diameter of 13 cm and is in the form of a six-petal sunflower, which is surmounted by a node. The lower drip catcher, also in the form of a six-petal sunflower, has a diameter of 18 cm and is surmounted by a hexagonal shaft. At the top there is a node followed by a small drip catcher with a long prong in the center. The candle holder is decorated with lotuses and vines overlaid with blue enamel and embedded with red coral.
