Bell

Bronze

Bell

CHINA; Chen dynasty

From the inscription on the bronze bell, it is known that it has a weight of 12 kg and was commissioned by Shen Wenshu in 575. It was listed as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
The crown of the bell is in the form of twin dragons, with a flaming jewel at their center. The bell curves gently from the shoulder to the center, straightening down to the rim. Embossed lines divide the waist of the bell into several sections. The raised boss in the center, where the bell is struck, is surrounded by eight lotus petals, a design from the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420–589).
