Naga Girl Paying Respect to the Buddha

CHINA

According to the inscription in the upper left corner, this image is a copy of a painting by Li Gonglin, done from memory by Chang Dai-Chien. The bearded Buddha wears a red monastic robe over a white inner robe. He is seated on a cushioned chair fashioned out of a rock. The Naga Girl, with narrow eyes and small lips, wears a headdress, a necklace, a stole, and a red dhoti. She kneels and holds up a flaming jewel on a plate, offering it to the Buddha. The figures stand out brightly from the blank background.
