Longevity Buddha

CHINA

According to the script in the upper-right corner, this painting depicts Longevity Buddha. Qi Baishi was renowned for the unconventional style he developed during his later years. The inscription beside the figure indicates that the artist was 88 years old when he finished this work.
The bearded Buddha has slender eyes and sits with his head bowed in deep contemplation. A red hooded robe is wrapped around the body. The face is outlined with fine, concise brushstrokes, while the robe is painted with thick strokes.
