
Born in Lhunzhub, Lhasa, Yeshe Sherab is a painter and a sculptor. At the age of 11, he entered Drepung Monastery in Lhasa where he began studying the many sculptures, murals, and thangkas. Later, and for over 30 years since the age of 32, he worked as the art director of Tibet Daily and was among the artists who designed the mural in the Tibet Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. He was also the vice chairman of the Tibetan Division of China Artists Association and China Calligrapher’s Association.
Yeshe Sherab also creates Tibetan thangkas and calligraphy. His works have been exhibited on many occasions and have won several awards. His works include the murals of Phagpa, Kublai Khan, and Thangtong Gyalpo in the Tibet Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing; the set of nine Six Ornaments and Two Noble Beings thangkas; the three-story high Maitreya Buddha statue in Drak Yerpa in Lhasa, the sculptures of the Eight Great Disciples, Nine Amitayus Buddhas, the Dharma Transmissions of the Seven Tibetan Masters, and the Eighteen Arhats at Jokhang Temple; and the sculptures of the Three Buddhas in Ganden Chokhor Ling Monastery.
