
Sonam Tshering was a 19th century representative of New Menri school of painting in the East Kham region of Tibet. He was born into a family of painters and was the younger brother of the well-known artist Phurbu Tshering. Sonam Tshering was proficient in painting and the crafting of ceremonial masks. His painting style integrated the features of the Menri and Karma Gadri schools. He painted an image of the mahasiddha in Indian style, the enthroned Guru in Chinese style, and Vajrayana deities in Tibetan style. His existing works include the drafts for the illustrations of Longchen Rabjampa and the Sakya Lineage Tree.
