A representative of the Gahe school of pianting, Gonpo Dorje was a Tibetan artist who was active during early 20th century. He was said to have painted the images of the Karmapa and great masters of the Kagyu school Mahamudra lineage, which are now a part of the art collection in Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim. The paintings are vibrant and depict figures in elegant and lively postures. The composition emphasizes an asymmetrical layout, which was a key characteristic of the Gahe school paintings.
