Xue Fang

CHINA, Jiangsu, Wuxi; Qing dynasty

Xue Fang was an embroidery artist and the wife of Ni Mogeng, a well-known painter from Yangzhou. Her works were mainly based on Ni’s freehand drawings of Buddha figures, flowers, and landscapes. In addition, Xue’s stitching techniques were mostly comprised of elegant and skilled prodding stitches. Such techniques expressed the bold and unrestrained styles of Ni’s paintings.
