Hu Qichang was a Tibetan lama and the creator of the well-known Chinese-style Peking rug. He was known to have brought two disciples to travel alongside him on the long journey from Tibet to Beijing to set up a carpet manufacturing factory in Baoguo Temple. The establishment of this factory spearheaded the industry of rug making in the area around Beijing. The Peking rug style incorporates Buddhist themes such as the eight auspicious symbols and other motifs to symbolize prosperity.
