Jin Sheng

CHINA, Anhui, Huangshan; Ming dynasty

Jin Sheng was a painter from Oushan, Xiuning (present day Huangshan, Anhui). He passed the imperial examination in 1628, and became an Imperial Scholar. He joined the Hanlin Academy as an official and was subsequently promoted to the role of a military supervisor.
Jin was known to have immense knowledge and talent. Skilled in painting, particularly that of landscapes, figures, and horses, his works display his adept dexterity in the handling of brushstrokes. His painting of Amitayus Buddha is a well-known Buddhist depiction.
