Chen Ning was a woodblock carver of the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368). He once inscribed the Frontispiece of the Bodhi Dharani Sutra with images of Sakyamuni Buddha teaching the Dharma and relic stupas. In this work, the carving is done with strength and gentleness simultaneously. Chen’s name is mentioned in the printed edition of Revised Xuanhe Catalog of Metal and Stone Works.
