
Bo Ziting, whose original family name was Shi, was a monk and painter. Originally from Siming (present day Ningbo, Zhejiang), he later went to Chicheng (present day Tiantai) to give teachings. He was fond of traveling freely, and resided in Jiading during most of his travels.
His skills in calligraphy and painting matched those of Chan Master Xuechuang Puming, and he was proficient in depicting plants, particularly Acorus gramineus, which is also known by the name of Japanese Rush. His painting entitled Acorus Gramineus is currently kept at the Umezawa Kinenkan Museum in Tokyo, Japan. This piece, along with his other work, Dead Wood, were listed as Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
