Li Youzhi

CHINA, Henan, Kaifeng; Southern Song dynasty

Li was a painter from Bianjing (present day Kaifeng, Henan) who excelled in depicting Buddhas, deities, ghosts, horses, and cows. Several of his paintings recorded in References on Painting Matters include Mahamayuri, Dharma Protectors, Followers of Manjusri, and Bodhisattva on a Lotus. Another painting by Li is Herding, created in 1138 and documented in Collection of Famous Chinese Paintings.
