
Zhiyun was a monk and painter adept in painting Buddha images and human figures. He is known for emulating the style of Cao Buxing. Between 951 and 954, Zhiyun presented a painting entitled Dancing Zhong Kui as a tribute to the Emperor and was honored with a purple robe.
Artworks by Zhiyun include Vairocana Buddha at Tiangong Temple in Henan, Dipamkara Buddha at Guang’ai Temple, and Three Calamities at Fuxian Temple, all of which are recorded in Overview of Painting.
