Zhang Shou

CHINA; Tang dynasty

Zhang Shou was a sculptor who, according to Famous Paintings in History, in 655 worked alongside Song Chao and Yuan Jia’er in the sculpting of the statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva at Jing’ai Temple in Henan. The statue was modeled from an image drawn by Song Fazhi when he accompanied a Tang dynasty (618–907) expedition to India to study Buddhist art.
