Zuo Li

CHINA, Sichuan, Chengdu; Tang dynasty

Zuo Li was a painter of the late Tang dynasty (618–907). His paintings were modeled after the style of Wu Daozi, and his depictions of Buddhist and Daoist figures were comparable to famous artists such as Han Qiu and Zhang Nanben. His painting Sixteen Arhats is listed in Overview of Painting, Xuanhe Catalog of Paintings, and Evaluation of Painters of the Past and Present also record his Daoist paintings.
