Originally from Taiyuan, Shanxi, Wang Fei was a painter as well as a provincial governor in Jianzhou (present day Jiange, Sichuan). He studied painting under Zhou Fang, and learned to depict noble women and Bodhisattvas. Although his paintings did not acquire the finesse of Zhou Fang’s works, he was highly regarded and considered more accomplished than his fellow students.
Wang Fei’s works include Emperor Ming at Leisure Time, portrait of Zhuo Wenjun, Ladies Avoiding the Summer Heat, and several others for a total of ten pieces, all of which were recorded in Xuanhe Catalog of Paintings.
