
Liu Zheng was a painter who served as an official in the architecture department during the rule of Emperor Suzong (reigned 756–762) of Tang dynasty. Skilled in depicting nature, his mural painting of Two Pine Trees on the western corridor of the Manshu Yuan Temple in Shaanxi was noted in Records of Temples and Pagodas. Additionally, Famous Paintings in History documented his landscape paintings found in the Dongshan Pagoda of Chongfu Temple and Zhuangyan Temple in Changan. Liu also colored the Water-Moon Avalokitesvara, aureole, and bamboo originally drawn by Zhou Fang in the southeast courtyard of Shengguang Temple.
