Wang Ding

CHINA, Shandong, Linyi; Tang dynasty

Wang Ding was a painter and government official who was accomplished in the depiction of Buddhist images including Bodhisattvas and eminent monks. His paintings feature dexterous brushwork and were considered to be both charming and powerful.
Famous Paintings in History documents two of his works, Traveling Monk and Bodhisattva with Circular Nimbus. The two paintings are located on the southern side doors of Northwest Hall at Shengguang Temple in Shaanxi.
