He Changshou

CHINA; Tang dynasty

He Changshou was a painter who was skilled in the depiction of Buddhist and Daoist figures. He and another renowned Tang dynasty painter, Fan Changshou, are said to have emulated the style of Zhang Sengyou. As they were from different schools of painting, there was often competition between the two regarding who produced the greater work of art.
According to Famous Paintings in History, He painted the landscape and Buddha Assembly murals on the north wall of the main hall at Jing’ai Temple in Henan. Xuanhe Catalog of Paintings also his other painting, Drunken Daoist Practitioner. Other works of He include the Daoist scroll paintings, Mercury Star and True Officials of the Five Sacred Peaks.
