Dharmajnana

INDIA

Dharmajnana was a monk and sculptor from India. During the rule of Emperor Wen (reigned 581–604) of the Sui dynasty, he traveled to the Central Plain of China from India and visited many Buddhist sites. According to Famous Paintings in History, he visited various sites of the Asoka Pillars.
As recorded in Inspirations from the Triple Gem, it is said that he once visited Dashi Temple in Sichuan and saw 12 deities in the sky. Inspired by this sight, he sketched their images and turned them into wood carvings.
