Piyang Cave 4: Thousand Buddhas

CHINA, Tibet, Ngari

This mural is situated on the north wall of Cave 4 in Area 1 and depicts the Thousand Buddhas. These figures are presented on a dark background, each with a different color, posture, and nimbus. Some wear monastic robes covering both shoulders, while others cover only one shoulder. Each robe has a unique pattern. All the Buddhas have bright aureoles and are seated on lotus thrones.
