This mural is located on the south slope of the ceiling in the main chamber. It was painted according to a description in the Medicine Buddha Sutra.
The release of captured animals is depicted on the left side of the first section of the mural. A figure kneels on the ground and releases birds from a cage, while a second figure dressed in official’s robes and surrounded by flames looks on. Three altar tables filled with offerings are located in the center of the scene. Medicine Buddha stands behind the central table, holding an object with both hands. Unfortunately, the details are difficult to discern due to damage. The figure is surrounded by a round green nimbus and an oval mandorla. A disciple stands on both sides of the Buddha. Tufts of clouds are depicted above the three figures. A seven-tier lamp is on the right side of the illustration.
A pagoda being built and the raising of a five-colored banner are portrayed in the lower right section of the mural. A long altar table is found in the center of the scene. The Medicine Buddha stands behind the table, flanked by two disciples and surrounded by clouds. The Buddha holds an alms bowl and a monk’s staff. Two officials are depicted on the right side of the scene. One official holds an incense burner while the other carries flowers.
