Mogao Cave 328: Bodhisattvas Making Offerings

CHINA, Gansu, Dunhuang; Western Xia period

These figures are on the left side of the front (east) wall within the main chamber. The Bodhisattvas have patterned nimbuses and appear in half profile. They each have an urna, long eyebrows, slender eyes, and a small mouth. They are adorned with headdresses, stoles, jade necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and elaborate flowing garments. The Bodhisattva on the left holds a tray of lotus flowers and the Bodhisattva on the right holds the long stem of a lotus flower. They stand barefoot on inverted lotus pedestals.
